WHS - Understanding - 9 Hole Daily Handicaps

Modified on Tue, 15 Oct at 11:45 AM

Thank you for contacting Golf Link regarding the calculation of a 9 Hole Daily Handicap under the World Handicapping System (WHS).

We would strongly suggest reading the article published by GA on their website, in particular PART D: Operational Guide, item 19. How to calculate a Daily Handicap under the WHS - https://www.golf.org.au/whs/

THE WHS FORMULA FOR A 9 HOLE DAILY HANDICAP =  ((GA Handicap x Slope Rating / 113) + ((Scratch Rating minus Par)x2)) x 0.93

The Daily this will calculate will be for 18 Holes and the Player then needs to apply the appropriate Strokes based on the Indexes for the 9 hole Course played.

Eg if a Player is assigned a 9 Hole Handicap of 20 using the above calculations and the Course Indexes have 9 applicable Indexes on the Front Nine and 11 on the Back Nine, then when you enter their Ad hoc Score if it was for the Front 9 their Handicap would be added as 9.

When entering 1st Cards for Handicapping you use 27 as the Daily Handicap to calculate the Stableford Handicapping Score to be submitted to Golf Link.

We hope this explains how the calculations are done and if after checking your handicap using the correct values for each field you still believe there is an issue, please email help@golf.com.au.
